Why the DNC is Hiding its 2024 Election Autopsy: The Inside Story.

The decision from the DNC to suppress the publication of its own post-election analysis on the 2024 election appears shocking yet entirely predictable. Resistant to hard truths, the DNC often functions more like a PR firm than a political organization devoted to building local power capable of prevailing at the polls.

A Climate of Conformity

Hesitant to break with the party establishment's culture of conformity, the committee has continued under that legacy all through this past year. Publishing such a report would have indicated that party leaders are interested to promote honest conversation about the strategic failures that enabled the former president to return to the White House. Yet, the leadership is moving forward under the pretense that there are no lessons to glean from the stunning loss from the last cycle.

Our guiding principle: is this good for winning elections? Should the answer be negative, it’s a distraction from the core mission," a justification that has been offered to justify concealing the analysis.

Major Failures an Analysis Would Have Addressed

A genuine analysis with any value would tackle head-on certain uncomfortable matters. This encompasses:

  • Electoral Alienation: Failing to retain among millions of voters who voted for the party's candidate in 2020 proved pivotal during the tight recent race.
  • The Choice to Run: The stubborn choice by the incumbent to run again, and an extremely delayed step-aside, is seen by some as denying Democratic voters of a competitive nomination process.
  • Failing Everyday Americans: During a time of economic anxiety, the electoral effort is criticized for accommodating corporate donors' interests without successfully attempting to address the effects of profit-seeking.
  • A Foreign Policy Factor: An unwillingness to adjust a policy position on a major international conflict allegedly caused alienating key demographic groups, particularly among youth voters, Arab American communities, and Muslim Americans.
  • Eroding Young Voter Backing: Research indicates a significant drop-off of support for the party from the youth electorate.

A Pattern Avoiding Accountability

This refusal fits a pattern of sidestepping difficult realities. It echoes an episode in which the vast majority of Democratic officeholder in Congress went along with a sitting president's insistence on running for re-election right up until a catastrophic televised debate forced an exit.

Meanwhile, a significant majority of the electorate were repeatedly informing pollsters of their opposition to the incumbent to run again.

Financial Issues

A thorough report would also examine matters about where money went, such as how much money flowed to insider consultants and ad buyers over the course of an electoral effort that managed to spend a staggering amount during the general election.

A Underlying Issue

Fundamentally, the blockage of the official autopsy is symptomatic of an allegiance to party leaders responsible for a losing presidential campaign. The implication for rank-and-file members – which includes countless small donors – is that they cannot be trusted to understand what the leadership have learned from an analysis drawing from conversations with insiders.

A party unable to publicly examine where it went wrong will struggle to escape the cycle which was so advantageous to the winning candidate.
