Tetris Didn't Succeed at This Gaming Ceremony — An Additional Classification May Address This Issue

Whenever a major honors show nears, there’s always an outcry for the addition additional classifications to honor unsung work and satisfy the spirits of followers who have specialized interests.

Another commentator has already made for a horror game category. That would rule. The same goes for tabletop games, which is a dedicated supporter's campaign. However, I must insist when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification supporting my request is the most urgent and important of all. This is the request: It's essential to create an award type for logic-based games.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Classifying creative works is not a science; opinions vary greatly, and typically spark debates resulting in unclear classifications. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. However, it represents a necessary evil in the world of interactive entertainment, which are so diverse they hardly constitute a single creative category.

For comprehensive acknowledgment of gaming accomplishments to be recognized, while allowing diverse titles to compete fairly, genre categories are essential.

Present Award Structure

The major gaming awards offer these classifications covering Action, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Between them, these six categories actually cover a lot of ground, allowing placement for numerous titles.

Not so for logic-based experiences. No appropriate category exists to accommodate them. Examine these examples from outstanding current releases, all very different: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching from another release, thought-provoking social scenarios from additional release. Which classification works between these six categories? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

Many instances occur of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories at major award shows, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive Indie races.

  • One classic puzzle game received no recognition completely during that awards season
  • Another creative title missed out that year
  • Popular arranging title was overlooked recently
  • Just some brain-teasers scraped into niche award types

Importance of Logic Titles

Commonly they're compact experiences, but the art behind logic titles carries substantial weight. Well-known matching games rank among most popular titles worldwide and have been for an extended period.

The iconic tile-matching title competes with popular creative games for the title of highest-selling title ever; it additionally competes as greatest title ever. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

The Solution and Justification

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. You could fill multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles each ceremony simply — or rather, with difficulty, because you’d have to leave many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles that otherwise have no home in important events. Brain-teaser creators are working at the challenging frontier game development, developing some of most fundamental forms within interactive entertainment. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Don't make them wait generations.
